Knowing and Believing

We cannot force knowing. Even if we aspire to greater understanding, we can't don that aspiration like a well-cut robe and will it to be our skin. Even if the cloth is fine, and the stitches invisible perfection.

Belief can be forced and entrained, which is how dogmas are used in place of trusting the unknown. That's not to say it's a wrong thing to do. Not at all. Every time we need to prop up a belief with dogma (or vice versa) we have the opportunity for self-enquiry: "What is it that needs defending here?"

In every moment our position and what we believe is a case of resonation. "I resonate with that," is not a throwaway comment. We don't even need to be able to put into words the experience. Frequently we cannot, which becomes the fuel our ego uses to discount the entire happening as inconsequential due to lack of defensibility. But there lies the inspiration for non-verbal expression in music and poetry, and art.

We can always, however, move in the directon of our desire for expansion. In fact, it is impossible to not do exactly that. Even if it looks like butting our head against a pattern that we are determined to make work because we are sure that it is what will make us happy—in the future. If we allow what makes us feel fulfilled to be right now, what need have we to attempt to force into existence what we think we know is better?

Reality wins, but only 100% of the time, as Byron Katie tells us. Put energetically, our vibration magnetises to it only what resonates in harmony with it.

So turn in the direction of what feels uplifting. Notice I didn't say "easy" or "pleasant" there. Sometimes, expansion feels decidedly uncomfortable. But it's a discomfort of release and awakening. And the discomfort always comes from our resistance to change rather than the change itself.

Practise tuning in to the quiet space of the unknown, inviting Goddess's Voice to sound. The more devoted our practise, the more likely it is we'll know upliftment when it's revealed.

A Goddess Course in Miracles is a powerful framework for my personal spiritual practise. Book One is available now in paperback and eBook.
